Nothing is ever overwritten
If Nightdrive_v4.mp3 already exists you get Nightdrive_v4 2.mp3. And converting song.wav and song.flac at the same moment does not make them fight over one name.
A failed encode leaves nothing behind
The encoder writes to a hidden temporary file and only swaps it in when it finishes. You never find a half-written MP3 next to your master.

A folder of bounces is one right-click. The menu reads Convert to MP3 (20 files), and Ricly encodes two at a time so your session is not fighting for the CPU. Twenty uploads to a converter is twenty waits, and twenty copies of unreleased audio on someone else’s server.
There is a native path, and it goes through your music library. The Music app really does make MP3s — set the import encoder in Settings, add the file to your library, then File, Convert, Create MP3 Version. It works, it is free, and it puts a copy of your bounce in a library it was never meant to live in. Finder itself has no audio conversion. Finding the file counts as a step on a website, because you have to go and look for it in a picker. With Ricly you are already on it. Waiting is never counted: they all wait, and uploading a 50 MB master waits a good deal longer than a local encode.

Questions people actually ask.
What bitrate do I get?
Variable bitrate, quality 2 — around 190 kbps. It is the setting people choose by hand when they know lame: transparent for almost every listener, and a much smaller file than a fixed 320.
Are my tags and cover art carried over?
No. The MP3 comes out without ID3 tags or artwork, so a file converted from a tagged M4A loses them. Coming from a WAV or an AIFF bounce there is usually nothing to lose. If you tag your releases, tag the MP3 after converting.
Which files can I use?
WAV, AIFF, AIF, FLAC, M4A, AAC, CAF and M4V. A video container works too — the audio track is taken out of it.
Is the file uploaded anywhere?
No. The encoding happens on your Mac. Ricly does check your account, so it needs the network to run, but the audio itself never leaves. One tool in Ricly does send files, Upload & Share, and it says so on its own page.
Can I convert a whole folder of bounces?
Select them all and right-click once. They run two at a time so your Mac stays usable while a session is open, and each one gets its own MP3.
Will it overwrite the MP3 I already made?
Never. You get a numbered file beside it instead. Ricly does not replace a file that already carries the name, and it never asks you the question mid-export either.
